This is the catalog of the Rolf Fehlbaum Collection in Zurich. Fehlbaum, who is the director if Vitra, has fifty-five of the Baranger Motion Displays. Originally, they were designed, from the 1930s to the end of the 1950s, to help promote the sales of the diamond engagement ring - they were sent on loan to jewelry stores all over the country. They are a kind of original cartoon of merchandising - customers would line up, three deep, to see the newest Motion Display when it was being unveiled. They came, to each shop that subscribed, in their own, specific to that piece, red carrying box. They are the theatre of animation - their adventures included Seven Dwarfs, two turtles, Cab Calloway, Edgar Bergen, Little Nemo, Stallions and Steamboat Willie.
